Vicinity Industrial Base to welcome Nick Scali Furniture
22 August 2011 Media Release
Momentum is building at Walker Corporation's Vicinity Industrial Base in Adelaide's north where national furniture retailer Nick Scali has announced it will house a new South Australian distribution centre.
Emmett Property purchased the site from Walker Corporation and will develop the 3000sqm facility which Nick Scali will lease to service its four SA retail stores.
The furniture manufacturer chose Vicinity due to its proximity to major arterial roads, convenience for receipt of stock from Port Adelaide and subsequent ease of delivery to its 4 retail stores in South Australia.
Managing Director of Emmett Property, Nick Emmett was “very pleased” to secure a commitment from Nick Scali at Vicinity he said.
“We were able to provide Nick Scali with a very competitive rental offer at Vicinity due to the affordable land, regular lot shape and flexible lot boundaries.”
Executive Chairman of Walker Corporation Lang Walker said the announcement would strengthen Vicinity's growing reputation as a key industrial hub for Adelaide.
“The creates great momentum following the purchase of an 18,500sqm block by Cahill Transport earlier this year,” Mr Walker said.
“With easy access to the Port, Adelaide's CBD and interstate highways, Vicinity is well positioned strategically as the State government continues to develop Adelaide's north into an industrial growth corridor.
“Including Cahill Transport there are now three blue chip companies at Vicinity and we're excited to welcome another hugely successful brand in Nick Scali.
“We have no doubt the location and new facility will serve its South Australian operations very well.”
Kimberley Clark Australia and transport heavyweight Toll Group were first to open distribution centres at Vicinity in 2010.
At 100 hectares, Vicinity is Adelaide's largest industrial project currently under development. It provides an excellent destination for businesses looking to build their new headquarters or storage/distribution facilities close to Adelaide, with direct links to the north.
The $400million estate is being developed as part of a $3 billion portfolio of development currently underway by Walker Corporation in South Australia. This portfolio includes the residential masterplanned community at Buckland Park that will accommodate 12,000 homes, along with the award-winning Bluestone Mt Barker, an 850-home residential masterplanned community in the Adelaide Hills' fastest growing region.
Vicinity is positioned on the corner of Edinburgh and Wyatt Roads at Direk (25km north of Adelaide), just 3km from the new $560m Northern Expressway, ensuring easy access to the main freight routes in and out of Adelaide.
Stage 1 at Vicinity is currently available for sale or lease with land parcels on offer from 3,000sqm to more than 50,000sqm. This land is ideally suited to transport and logistics, storage and warehousing, manufacturing and more.
Walker is investing in the northern suburbs, which it has identified as one of the most significant and strategic growth areas in Australia. It has been supported by excellent forward planning for infrastructure and growth by the State Government and local councils.
Vicinity will be developed over three stages in the next four years and provide over 4,000 jobs for Adelaide's growing northern suburbs. Already it has created around 200 positions.
